Did We Film a UFO Hiding in Plain Sight?
Satellites don't make turns, or change speed. Or do they?
We recently filmed a satellite that didn't follow the rules of normal orbital mechanics. We have to call it a UFO, even though it looked a lot like a satellite, simply because we can't identify what it actually was. The details are important, so here we go...
Guffey Sky Watch Party
On May 18th, 2025, we were out at the ranch near Guffey, Colorado at a Sky Watch Party along with other MUFON folks. We filmed many dozens of satellites with our two Sony A7Sii extremely low light video cameras, catching a lot of satellites we couldn't see with our naked eyes. Just after 10 pm, as we were preparing to wrap things up outside and go visit with people inside, we packed up one camera but aimed the other towards Polaris (the North star) and the Little Dipper. Just a few minutes more...
The Analysis Begins
Over the next few days we analyzed all our videos from that night in detail, calculating orbital altitude from the exact azimuth and elevation angles of satellites at exactly 10 second intervals and "doing the math". These altitudes varied but were generally a few hundred miles above the Earth.
We did catch several anomalous events, especially in the last video of the evening. We filmed several very fast flashes, some even in pairs, and one blob quickly flashed in bright red. But more importantly, one of the apparent satellites threw us for a loop, exhibiting behavior that normally would never have been caught. Let me explain.
Youtube Straight Red Lines
UFO-Track has created several awesome Youtube videos from our sky watch videos (see Youtube.com/@UFO-Track ) where we superimpose very dim straight red lines so it's easy to track satellites as they move across the screen.
Our cameras have 50 mm fixed lenses, creating about a 39 degree corner-to-corner angle of view. The fish-eye effect with these cameras is so minimal that the satellites always follow their superimposed straight red lines very precisely. All except for one!
As shown above ( you can watch the full video analysis here ), this "satellite" moved off its line a significant amount. We calculated its orbital altitude at about 625 miles, so its deviation from a straight-line path worked out to about 6 miles during the 2 minutes it was in the field of view of the camera.
Or... Did We Catch a No-Fly-Zone Object?
It is possible this object wasn't actually at orbital altitude, a real possibility since it didn't follow all the normal orbital rules. For example, if we make the assumption it was "only" at 60 miles altitude then its velocity works out to about 1600 miles per hour.
60 miles altitude was chosen because nothing man-made flies above 20 miles, or orbits below 100 miles. We call this 80 mile stretch of altitude the No-Fly-Zone. Rocks and rockets go through this zone, but they don't drift across the night sky in an almost straight line for 2.5 minutes!
From Now On, We Plan to Use Two Cameras
We had already packed up our second camera, but even if we had caught this object on both, they weren't separated enough that night to be able to use our triangulation math to determine the object's altitude - assuming orbital altitude. With one camera we can calculate orbital altitude since a satellite's velocity is predictable, but any non-orbital object requires two sychronized cameras with appropriate separation.
Some Verifying Data
So, did we catch a UFO trying to go unnoticed by 'acting like a satellite' - we caught something on camera that defied orbital mechanics - but to tell you what it was, we can't. However, we did catch a second satellite moments later following an almost identical path across our camera's field of view. It stayed on its line like all the rest of the hundreds of satellites we've filmed, providing even more supporting evidence that our unknown object did indeed behave mysteriously.
How Many "Satellites" Are Faking It?
Note that MUFON investigators routinely dismiss objects in the night sky that behave like satellites. And this is the right thing to do! If it "acts like a duck, and quacks like a duck", then we have no reason to make any assumptions about it being anything other than a duck. If it looks and acts like a satellite, end of story.
But how many man-made or NHI (Non-Human Intelligence) craft are cruising in the No_Fly_Zone, escaping notice or any further investigation because they can 'blend in'? That is what the UFO-Track project is out to discover! Stay tuned.
