Nazca Mummies - Get the whole story before you make a conclusion!
Take a look at the whole story before making the assumptions someone wants you to make.
This story has four acts, spaced out over a few years. Each piece is important for getting the facts straight, so you can decide for yourself on the validity of some extraordinary and amazing claims. Here are those facts, presented in chronological order, because that's important.
May, 2017
In mid 2017, investigative journalists Jay Weidner and Melissa Tittl of the popular Gaia streaming platform put together a team to travel to Peru to check out rumors of mummified alien bodies found in caves near the Nazca Plains geoglyphs. There they met with Jaime Maussan, a well known award winning journalist from Mexico who has studied UFOs and other phenomenon for over 47 years. Once presented with some stunning, white-powder-encrusted mummies, the team realized they needed expert help, so they pulled in scientists and researchers from several countries to help. As Jay stated, "We knew we wanted to use the scientific method for every step of this investigation".
Maria and Wawita
Two of the white-powder-encrusted mummified bodies were a little different than the rest of the smaller bodies. They had a bottom jaw bone with teeth, a pair of parallel bones in each forearem called the radius and ulna, and some other subtle details that were more human-like. They also had some very non-human features, such as three-fingered hands, three-toed feet, and elongated skulls with no suture lines. The phalanges (finger and toe bones) were much longer than normal.
Victoria, Alberto, Josephina
Smaller mummies were brought in over time for examinations, and they were determined to be humanoid in shape and stature, although smaller than most humans, with feet made for bipedal walking in an upright, human-like stance. Their skin, lack of lower jaw, the presence of eggs in a female's abdomen, and several other features indicated they were likely more reptilian in nature than mammal.
DNA, Carbon-14, CT scans, X-rays
Tissues samples from Maria and Wawita were sent to genetics, forensics, imaging, and other labs in several countries. Early on some skeptics had speculated publicly that the long-fingered hands must have been patched together from multiple species to create the fake bodies, so tissue samples were taken from Maria's fingers, toes, lower body, and upper body locations. All of these samples resulted in matching analysis, indicating all the samples were extracted from the same organic body. They were not Frankenstein-patched together from parts.
Carbon-14 results
All samples from Maria and the baby Wawita were consistently dated by multiple laboratories, located in different countries, and with high confidence levels, to just short of 1800 years in the past. The smaller, reptilian bodies were dated to about 700 years in the past.
Dr. Konstantin Korotkov, PhD, Saint Petersburg University, Russia, President of the International Union of Medical and Applied Bioelectrography, was one of several experts who verified that the Carbon-14 dating, and other results, were verified and accurate. The Carbon-14 testing was thorough.
DNA results
DNA samples were also analysed at different labs around the world. There was a match of about 25% of the extracted DNA with modern human DNA. Take note that chimpazees share about 98.5% of their DNA with humans. More exacting DNA analysis is still ongoing.
Doug Taylor, PhD, Professor of Biotechnology at University of Harrisburg, and Stephen Fratpietro, MSc, Technical Manager of the Paleo-DNA Laboratory in Canada, were two experts who shared these results publicly for Gaia. They described how the DNA samples were prepared, purified, and tested repeatedly to make sure the results were consistent from lab to lab.
William Brown, a U.S. Biophysicist and Molecular Geneticist, Msc., stated the results well, "DNA from Maria and Wawita don't match any known species on Earth."
CT scan results
Dr. Raymundo Salas Alfaro, a Peru radiologist, concluded from his studies of Maria's internals that she was a real creature that once was alive.
Natalia Zaloznaja, MD PhD, head of image analysis at the Medical Institute MIBS in Russia made an interesting point. "These are technically not mummies, because the organs were not removed." She based this claim from the fact that CT scans showed dehydrated brain matter inside the skulls, and the presence of recognizable organs such as heart, lungs, liver, spleen, and intestines. Scans of the dehydrated heart still clearly showed the four chambers.
X-rays
Scans showed the bones of the skeletons to be complete and extremely detailed, with subtle differences from those of humans. One example were the sinus cavities in the slightly elongated skulls, which were shaped uniquely. All bones were consistent with each other, clearly indicating all the parts were from a single complex creature in each case.
The three-fingered hands and three-toed feet were comprised of bones in a similar fashion to those of a human, just with a different parts count and proportionately much longer. Care was taken by the experts to eliminate the theory that a thumb and pinky had been removed to create fake three-fingered results.
M.K. Jesse, Musculoskeletal Radiologist at the University of Colorado Hospital stated, "I work with bones every day, and based on these scans it is highly unlikely that body parts were pieced together in any way."
Other results
The scientific and forensic analysis went beyond what has been presented here, all indicating highly anomalous results. For example, eggs were disovered in the lower abdomen of one of the smaller, female, apparently reptilian beings, along with a curious thin metal plate in her upper chest area located under the skin. Bone structures were slightly different in these smaller mummies as well, such as single forearm bones instead of the normal radius and ulna.
The white powdery material coating each mummy was analysed and determined to be comprised of diatomaceous earth, a naturally occurring mineral that is used as a dessicant and natural insecticide today. This material is perfect for preserving a body in a cave for a long time.
Under the diatomaceous earth was discovered a layer of cadmium chloride on the skin of the tested mummies. This is a chemical that should not have been available at all several hundred years ago.
The list of reputable scientists from around the world who analysed these creatures goes well beyond the few listed above. To Jay Weidner's credit, the scientific approach was well done, and speculation based on hearsay was eliminated in their findings.
So What's the Big Deal?
Now we get to the disinformation part of the story. And it's a doozy!
In 2017 Jaime Maussan and his team approached the Peruvian Ministry of Culture to present these important scientific research results for public awareness and education. The news would have been of great importance to Peru. However, they turned Jaime away without even a short meeting, and they wanted nothing to do with any of it.
The story was downplayed in the media for several years, making it a struggle to get the word out. No authorities or media outlets in the U.S., Mexico, Peru, or elsewhere wanted to touch the subject.
Thank you Gaia, for your willingness to take on this case!
Press Conference, September, 2023
Finally, on September 15th of last year, after public pressure started to rise, a press conference was held in Mexico where Jaime Maussan displayed some of the smaller, less impressive appearing mummies, and information was presented about them. It didn't go particularly well.
The media painted a picture of the conference as "a stunt", and previous negative comments about Jaime from the past came up to haunt his efforts. Also, Peru's Culture Minister, Leslie Urteaga, showed up and stated that no scientific body in her country had identified the remains presented by Maussan. She undermined him further by questioning how the items had left Peru, implying possible illegal activity to do so.
Of course this all left the important scientific information in the trash pile. One comment in the media made the rounds and stated, "If they really have something real, they should send tissue samples out to laboratories around the world, so we can all know the truth!" ... Wow.
Press Conference, November, 2023
Jaime, and others, pressed on since they knew they had valid and important information to present to the world. On November 7th last year, a second press conference took place, this time with several experts coming forward making statements covering the reality and validity of the scientific investigations.
For example, Anthropologist Roger Zuniga of San Luis Gonzaga National University in Ica Peru said his researchers had studied five similar specimens over four years. When asked by Reuters after the session, Zuniga stated, "They're real. There was absolutely no human intervention in the physical and biological formation of these beings." Zuniga also presented a letter signed by 11 researchers from his University all supporting his stated contention.
Of course there was dissent and deflection at the conference, which ended with a choreographed "stunt" when Mexican rapper Claudio Yarto spoke, saying he had personally seen UFOs. He ended his speech with a colorful rhyme, sparking applause from the crowd.
This conference did succeed in raising some awareness, and it did improve the credibilty of Jaime Maussan's team of presenting experts. But unfortunately, that's not the end of this story.
January 12, 2024 - The Dolls
Apparently, the Peruvian authorities at the Ministry of Culture, or perhaps other players in the Peruvian government or military, felt the need to squash the growing awareness and credibility around the scientific analysis of these mummies. This is speculation on my part, but it sure seems clear that an old-school and very obvious disinformation tactic was deployed this past week. Here's what happened...
In October, artifacts were seized by Peruvian customs agents that were intended for "a Mexican citizen." There's still mystery around the exact source and destination of these artifacts.
On January 12th, at a press conference organized by Peru's Culture Ministry, two experts from the Peruvian Ministry, Favio Estrada, a forensic archaeologist at the Public Ministry's Institute of Legal Medicine, and Humberto Ávalos, forensic pharmacist at the Institute of Legal Medicine of the Public Ministry, gave a presentation to the media showing off their scientific expertise with the faked mummies.
Flavio made some strong statements as he presented rather goofy pictures to the press of the dolls. One photo shows a mummy dressed in colorful Peruvian doll attire, and the other had fake, rectangular "surgery holes" in its abdomen. These dolls were obviously created to look like the originals , but they obviously were not.
Flavio held up the dolls and said, "They are not extraterrestrials, they are not intraterrestrials, they are not a new species, they are not hybrids, they are nothing of what this group of pseudo-scientists who have been presenting these elements for six years are saying." He did not say who the pseudo-scientists were. Flavio pointed out that the mummies were patched together from various human and animal bones, held together with "synthetic glue".
The Media Reaction
As a probable disinformation ploy, this stunt worked well. Even though the dolls had nothing to do with the original mummies (even the culture ministry refused to say that these dolls found in the DHL office were related to the bodies researched earlier), the press took the bait. The Times of India headline provides a good example, "Alien mummies or earthly hoax? Scientists reveal truth behind Peru's mysterious artifacts."
